Construction Career Day (CCD) was conducted on November 14, 2024, on the Kauai Community College campus. The event attracted middle school and high school students to attend from the various DOE, Charter and Private schools on Kauai. Click here for the event guide.
HAPI participated as an exhibitor. About 100 students and faculty visited our table manned by Jon and Lynn Young. Students could help themselves to a HAPI pencil, pen, sticker, post it note pad, power clip, and/or luggage tag.
Students could help themselves to a 3 Reasons Why the Asphalt Industry is an Awesome Career Choice Brochure, a Careers in the Asphalt Industry flyer and /or our industry resources flyer.
Several students left our table with these in hand. More importantly, Jon Young shared these handouts with advisors, counselors, and teachers for them to share the information provided with their students.

The “Paving Train” activity was popular among the students. The activity shows the procedure and equipment needed to turn a road in disrepair into a newly paved smooth riding pavement. Students chose a photo of a piece of construction equipment. If a student correctly matches the photo of the equipment with the description of the equipment, they can enter to win a $10 gift card. 85 students made the correct match.
Four students received a gift card: one student each from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, Hawai‘i Technology Academy, Kapa‘a High School, and Kaua’i High School. Click here for additional information about this activity.
HAPI thanks the students and faculty that stopped by our table. We hope that they gained knowledge of the various careers in the asphalt industry and of the equipment used to construct an asphalt pavement.
