Jon and Lynn Young represented HAPI at the first ever Leilehua High School College & Career Night event on April 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event was opened to the Wahiawa Community. The event attracted Leilehua high school students, some with their parents, which was nice to see.
Over 200 companies and organizations were on-hand to help students plan their futures. Represented at the event included colleges, universities, trades, military, and retail stores (see photos below). Click here for a floor plan of the gym with the table layout.
Visitors to the HAPI table could watch a 4-minute video showing the construction sequence to resurface a road, including the wages for the workers involved in that process. They could help themselves to a HAPI sticker, a HAPI pencil, a 3 Reasons Why the Asphalt Industry is an Awesome Career Choice Brochure, and/or a Careers in the Asphalt Industry flyer.
Seventeen students participated in our Paving Train Activity for a chance to win a $10 gift card from Starbucks. Students were given a photo of a piece of construction equipment and had to correctly match it with one of the descriptions shown in the photo above. If they matched it correctly, they were eligible to enter a drawing to win a $10 gift card.
Rocio Alano, College & Career Coordinator, Leilehua High School and her team put on an excellent event. We hope to participate in future events at Leilehua High School.
