At a press conference on December 30, 2016, Mayor Caldwell of the City and County of Honolulu, reported that the City had paved 256 lane miles in 2015. This paving is part of the Mayor’s five year plan, that commenced in 2013, to resurface 1,500 lane miles of road in “fair” or worst condition. 256 lane miles in 2015 combined with the 305 lane miles in 2014 and the 398 lanes miles in 2013 total 959 lane miles completed.
The remaining 541 lane miles are scheduled to be completed in 2016 and 2017. Key roads scheduled to be completed in 2016 include:
– Beretania Street
– Ward Avenue
– Kapahulu Avenue
– Date Street
On a side note, the number of potholes patched in 2015 was over 51,000 which is about 14,000 more than last year. The surge may be contributed to all the rain we experienced in 2015.
