On October 16, our executive director Jon Young was a guest lecturer for Professor Lin Shen’s CEE 375 course at the University of Hawaii.
He presented an overview of the asphalt paving industry covering the following topics: NAPA’s The Road Forward, Local Industry Resources, Asphalt Pavements, Pavement Types, Three Mix Types, Asphalt Materials, Mix Design and Production, Construction Sequence and Equipment, Pavement Preservation, and Balance Mix Design (BMD).
Students participated in a quiz game that reinforced key points from the presentation; top finishers received a $10 Starbucks gift card. The students were provided a PDF file of the presentation slides and a flyer with information about the industry.
