Regional Engineers Bob Humer and Danny Gierhart conducted the Asphalt Institute’s 3.5 day Mix Design Technology Certification (MDT) course. 25 technicians from HAPI member companies learned about the properties of the materials that compose asphalt mixtures, as well as the physical and mathematical processes involved in producing a successful asphalt mixture design. Click here for the course agenda.
The last day is reserved for an optional written certification exam. The exam, which is takes from two to three hours to complete on average, is designed to be challenging enough to allow only those students who have a good understanding of the design process to pass.
All participants receive a certificate for 22.5 PDHs. Those passing the exam will also be presented with a certificate indicating they have earned the Asphalt Institute’s Mix Design Technology Certification.
HAPI appreciates the Asphalt Institute bringing their course to Hawaii saving all attendees the costs of airfare, ground transportation, room and board.
Also a Big Mahalo to HAPI members Jas. W. Glover, Ltd. for the use of their training room for classroom sessions, and Grace Pacific LLC for the use of their Puuhale Laboratory and providing technicians for laboratory sessions.
