Quantifying the sustainability of pavements is a contentious topic, and it may potentially become a factor in pavement selection. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and the accompanying Product Category Rules (PCRs) are one tool now being used to help quantify the sustainability of pavements. While well established in other countries, EPDs are just now becoming part of the sustainability discussion in the U.S., and they are being incorporated in green building rating systems, such as LEED. Speakers Steve Baer, Principal Consultant and Director of Building & Construction Services, and Nicholas Santero, Senior Consultant at PE International Inc., will introduce what Environmental Product Declarations and Product Category Rules are, how they are developed, and why they are becoming more important.

The webinar will discuss:

  • The basics of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Product Category Rules (PCRs)
  • The process of developing EPDs and PCRs
  • How EPDs and PCRs are being used
  • What NAPA is doing to create an asphalt pavement EPD
