The goal of our scholarship is to assist college students pursing a degree in civil engineering, construction management, construction engineering, and other degrees related to the design and construction infrastructure improvements.
We are pleased to introduce you to the 2022 HAPI Scholarship Recipients. At our HAPI February 2022 lunch meeting, the scholarship recipients gave a brief presentation about themselves and what receiving the scholarship meant to them.
$1,000 Scholarship Recipients
Amr Ghanem Amr Ghanem is a Ph.D. candidate in the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He currently works as a teaching assistant for 160 students at the UHM. He is in charge of roughly three tutorials every semester, with a total of 160 students. Supervision was a critical duty for him since he is responsible for ensuring the quality of the students’ knowledge and social skills in order for them to work as engineers in the real world. He maintains the desire and potential of his academic excellence and life experiences serving the community.
Justin Kawamura During his first two years at Boise State University, Justin has been gaining book knowledge, and has also been getting work experience in design and construction. Observing how plans get constructed has given him a better understanding of the process. That hands-on experience has provided him a different perspective of his classroom work. His hope is to return home to Hawaii with this knowledge and experienced gained to launch a successful career in engineering and construction management.
Logan Castro Being a recipient of this scholarship last year has allowed Logan Castro to continue his studies at Georgia Institute of Technology and has inspired him to continue to work hard in his classes, take leadership positions, and pursue internships. He is interested in the production side of the asphalt industry. He wants to design innovative and coherent asphalt plants that are more sustainable and exceed the projected EPA (health and pollution standards) using the tools and skills he is acquiring from his education at Georgia Tech.
$500 Scholarship Recipient
Yvette Burdett Yvette is currently a full-time student at the Honolulu Community College (HCC) enrolled in the Architectural Engineering Construction Technology (AEC) program. She is not your typical student; she is a business owner and a licensed General Contractor. After graduating from HCC, she plans to continue her education at the University of Hawaii. Her goal is to earn a Doctor of Architecture degree and then become a licensed Architect. Aside from her career, working with underprivilege youth’s is her passion.
