The 2019 SAPA summer meeting took place in Charleston, SC. in early August.
The two-day meeting started with a half-day strategic planning session led by Bob Harris. Bob has 30+ years experience with associations, chambers and other nonprofits. The group discussed ideas for a plan for SAPA.
The second have of day 1 was our business meeting. Highlights included the approval of next year’s officers (see below) and an overview of Oklahoma City, the location of next year’s meeting.
Officers for the upcoming year are: Reed Ryan (Utah) to serve as Treasurer; Kevin Monaco (New Jersey) to serve as Secretary,
Bruce Barkevich (New York) to serve as Vice Chair, and Larry Patrick (Oklahoma) to serve as Chair. In addition, Jon Young (Hawaii) will continue to serve as bookkeeper.
Day 2 was a discussion of various national items including reports from the National Asphalt Pavement Association and the Asphalt Pavement Alliance; and National Center for Asphalt Technology update; and an update of several Federal Highway Administration topics.
The meeting concluded with small group discussion of topics ranging from technical talks to association management best practices.
While the executives were meeting, the spouses and guests spent time together. On day 1, they took Charleston Historic Walking Tour. The day 2 activity was a visit to the Middleton Place, which included lunch.
We look forward to next year’s meeting in Oklahoma City!
