The 2017 Construction Career Day (CCD) was held on November 2 at the Hilo Civic Auditorium (see below the photos for a list of the exhibitors). This year’s event had roughly 800 students and 200 volunteers. The students arrived in 4 groups throughout the day.
This was the first time HAPI has setup a table at CCD. Two of the handouts made available to the attendees were a 1) list of careers in the asphalt industry, including a description of each, and 2) the educational and job experience required for each career. Flyers from several of our member companies were also made available. Students that visited our table learned about HAPI and career opportunities in our industry. Several students showed interest in our life cycle of a road as shown in our exhibit on the table.
Equally as important to the students visiting our table, were visits by the career counselors from the various high school. They were appreciative of the information we provided about careers in the asphalt industry.
HAPI plans on setting up a table at the 2018 CCD and has some ideas about we can more attractive to the students.
