The City and County of Honolulu’s updated Storm Water Quality Rules take effect in August 2017 and have implications for project planning and implementation. Discussion topics include the following:
- New DPP rules with respect to construction
- New DPP rules with respect to post-construction (Low Impact Development)
- A National Perspective of Low Impact Development
- Example projects or case studies (i.e. Punahou School – Utilizing Stormwater in Outdoor Learning Environments)
- Lessons learned or design considerations (i.e. DOH – Clean Water Branch Perspectives)
The workshops were conducted over 3 days for specific target audiences. The June 26 morning workshop was for contractors and developers; the afternoon session was for City agencies. The June 27 all-day workshop was for design professionals and was repeated on June 28. An point emphasized during the workshops is that storm water can be a valuable resource.
