“6 Hour Shift” Sheds Light on Nighttime Paving Operations

With asphalt, a roadway can be transformed from deteriorating to like-new overnight with minimal disruption to motorists. Because it all happens at a time when few motorists are on the road, the Maryland Asphalt Association put together a revealing video to show just how much roadwork an asphalt paving crew can accomplish before the morning rush hour starts. “6 Hour Shift” compresses an overnight paving operation on the Washington Beltway down to 5 minutes. The video was played for Maryland state lawmakers to demonstrate the ease of maintenance, the recyclability of asphalt pavements, and how Perpetual Pavements are maintained in an urban area.
