The Hawai'i Asphalt Paving Industry (HAPI)

This Guide is a product of the Hawai'i Asphalt Paving Industry (HAPI) and its members. For the original Guide published in 2003 HAPI members John Romanowski, Randall Matsumoto and Lisa Economy were instrumental in its production. For this 2012 update, Executive Director Jon Young was instrumental. In all, HAPI's combined vision, commitment and effort provided the impetus and support for its development and production.

Author/Designer/Developer - Stephen T. Muench

Steve is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research interests include sustainability (especially as applied to roads), pavement design, roads, construction, construction materials, and education and teaching. Steve is a licensed professional engineer in Washington State and received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2004, his MSCE from the University of Washington in 1998, and his BSCE from the University of Washington in 1990.  Steve grew up in Hawai'i and is a graduate of Kailua Elementary, Kailua Intermediate and Kalaheo High School (class of 1986).  His parents still live in Kailua and he still calls Hawai'i "home".

The City and County of Honolulu provided valuable input and assistance in the preparation of the original 2003 Guide and 2012 update.

The HAPI Asphalt Pavement Guide was made with Adobe Dreamweaver CS6. Other software used in production: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Search Maker Pro 3.2 and Pinnacle Studio 15.
