WofA Hawaii Branch Meeting – January 2025

On January 17th, the Women of Asphalt – Hawaii Branch general meeting was conducted immediately following the HAPI Lunch Meeting.

The goal for the Hawaii Branch is to grow and develop it into an association that is helpful and meaningful for the members. Jon Young, Executive Director, HAPI will serve as an advisor and to help facilitate events and activities desired by the members.

The following topics were introduced for further discussion in the upcoming months:

Hawaii Branch SWAG: Crafco has generously offered to donate about 30 safety vests. Decisions to be made include who gets a vest, what vest to get, and where does the Hawaii branch logo go on the vest.

Other potential SWAG was also discussed. The items could be distributed at industry events. For example, Hawaii Branch stickers would be popular with the students that attend the Hawaii Construction Career Day events; they like to put them on the hardhats they receive.

Future events and activities may include tours of asphalt facilities and projects, pau hana get togethers, and webinars such as “Career Insights to Effective Leadership” by Lori M.K. Kahikina, P.E. Executive Director, and CEO Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation.

Elections for chairwomen and vice-chairwomen will take place in June. It is a two-year commitment.

Going forward, we plan to continue to have branch meetings immediately following the HAPI lunch meetings in January and July.
