Jon and Lynn Young represented HAPI at the 2024 Castle High School Career Exposure Fair on October 4th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event was attended by 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about our industry. After lunch, the event was open to community.
Schedule for the day:
– Arts & Business Academy (8:05 – 8:45) – 181 students
– Innovation Academy (8:50 – 9:30) – 288 students
– 9th Grade Houses (9:50 – 10:30) – 238 students
– Medical & Culinary Academy (10:35 – 11:15) – 211 students
– Lunch (11:15 – 11:50)
– Open to community (11:50 – 1:00)
Just under 50 companies, including HAPI member Hawthorne Cat, and organizations were on-hand to help students plan their futures. Represented at the event were colleges, universities, trades, military, and retail stores (see photos below). The floor plan of the gym with the table layout is shown at the very end of this article.
At our table, students could help themselves to HAPI giveaways and the following:
- 3 Reasons Why the Asphalt Industry is an Awesome Career Choice Brochure
- Careers in the Asphalt Industry flyer
- Our Industry Resources flyer
About 40 students participated in our Paving Train Activity for a chance to win a $10 gift card from Starbucks. Students were given a photo of a piece of construction equipment and had to correctly match it with one of the descriptions shown in the photo above. If they matched it correctly, they were eligible to enter a drawing to win a $10 gift card.
Ryan Saito, STEM Coordinator, James B. Castle High School and his team put on an excellent event. We hope to participate in future events at Castle High School.
