Flexible pavement design has undergone numerous changes since the AASHO Road Test a half-century ago. This webinar will detail how flexible pavements work to carry traffic and how this impacts design considerations. Some details on mechanistic-empirical design will be covered, too, but the primary purpose of this webinar is to provide a basic understanding of the AASHTO 93 Design Guide and how to apply it.

Key Takeaways:

  • Identify and describe key factors considered in structural pavement design;
  • Select appropriate input values and perform calculations necessary to estimate required pavement thickness using current AASHTO procedures;
  • Optimize thickness design to produce the most cost-effective pavement structure;
  • Discuss general design principles of mechanistic-empirical pavement design.
