Title: Use of Geosynthetics for Asphalt Pavements
Speakers:
– Troy Ogasawara – President, Geotech Solutions, Inc.
– Lars Nelson – Pacific Regional Manager, Tensar International Corporation
– Nicholas Reck – Director of Technology, Tensar International Corporation
This 3-hour workshop will discuss the use of geosynthetics to maximize the life of asphalt concrete pavements through design and construction. The workshop agenda is as follows:
– Subgrade improvement. When encountering soft subgrades, learn how to design a cost effective construction platform to keep the project moving.
– Pavement optimization for both rigid and flexible pavements. Design alternatives include:
a. Structural Section Reduction, resulting in lower initial cost and avoidance/protection of shallow utilities.
b. Life Extension, resulting in improved reliability and reduced maintenance.
– Rehabilitation and Maintenance – Reinforcing asphalt layers to minimize reflective cracking and to carry more traffic, and waterproofing cracked layers
– Drainage – Drainage design using horizontal drainage geosynthetics
In addition, the use of geosynthetics in recent Hawaii projects will be featured.
Takeaways:
– Become familiar with geosynthetics
– Learn on they can benefit (reduce cost or extend the life) the design of an asphalt pavement section
– Understand how they are installed in the pavement section
– Get the latest on new testing and on best practice that will help you maximize the benefit of geosynthetics on your next project
Who Should Attend: Government agencies, contractors, engineers, and construction managers wanting to gain an understanding the use of geosynthetics in asphalt pavements.
Time: Breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m.; session from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (approximate)
Cost: $0 includes breakfast. Parking is not included.
